Mobile Kitchen Ministry

Bringing Food to the Hungry

Sponsored by
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul
Belleville, Illinois Council

This is a unique ministry and the first one of its kind in the country.

 Mobile Bus

The Mobile Kitchen is a school bus that has been renovated with small kitchenettes, running water, and heating and air conditioning that goes out into the neighborhoods to feed the hungry!

Our Soup Bus has six tables and the capacity to seat up to twenty-four people at a time. Diners are served in a restaurant-style atmosphere with an attitude of courtesy and respect. The project has doubled since it started in 1988 and we now operate two Mobile Soup Kitchens.

This ministry feeds an average of 80 people per night and serves more than 17,000 hot meals each year. The bus is staffed with crews made up of volunteers who prepare and bring the meals on the Bus four nights a week!

Feeding the Hungry, Both Body and Soul!

The St. Vincent de Paul Mobile Kitchen Ministry strives to serve the entire person both body and soul!

Holidays are a very special time on the Mobile Kitchen. One of the buses is decorated for every occasion and to the delight of the children.

At Christmas, one of the Mobile Kitchens is converted into the "Santa Bus." Santa himself arrives for pictures and treats!

In the spring, it becomes the "Bunny Bus" and the Easter Bunny "hops" into town to visit with the children and provide small toys and candy.

Donated books are collected all year round for our "Books-On-The-Bus" program. As they leave the bus, the children are invited to take a donated book home with them and encouraged to learn the joy of reading!

Approximately 75% of those served by the Mobile Kitchen are children.
This vital ministry seeks to nurture the spirit as well as the body.
