Charity has two arms, one is direct service-the other is justice. The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is profoundly dedicated to both. Voice of the Poor is an advocacy committee whose purpose is to seek justice for the poor by addressing the root causes of poverty. It operates across throughout the United States and at all levels of the Society. The emphasis of the committee is on policy and actions which harm the poor and the effort is non-partisan within the IRS guidelines for 501© 3 organizations.

The Voice of the Poor committee meets on the second Tuesday every other month beginning in January at the Mount Carmel Cemetery Chapel at 7 PM. Urgent, local concerns are brought to the attention of the committee as well as state and national issues of key importance.

The National St. Vincent de Paul Office creates "action alerts" to make it easy to contact federal. State and local officials.
